Straight answers about vehicle appraisals.
FIN 320 requirements, timing, inspections and requesting an appraisal.
Good questions deserve clear answers.
What is a FIN 320 vehicle appraisal?
FIN 320 is the BC Motor Vehicle Appraisal Form used in certain private-sale vehicle PST situations where a properly supported appraised value may be relevant to the taxable value. The form specifies private-sale retail value, not trade-in value.
When might a FIN 320 appraisal be useful?
It may be relevant when the vehicle's actual private-sale retail value and the purchase price are both below the Canadian Black Book average wholesale value used for PST purposes. The province's rules determine whether the appraisal affects the tax calculation.
Will a FIN 320 appraisal automatically lower my PST?
No. Provincial eligibility rules and the relationship between the purchase price, appraised value and average wholesale value determine how PST is calculated. An appraisal is an independent assessment, not a guaranteed tax outcome.
Do I need the appraisal before registering?
BC says the FIN 320 can be presented when the vehicle is registered. If you already registered, there is a 30-day deadline from registration for the Ministry of Finance to receive a qualifying refund application (FIN 355/MV) and the appraisal form.
Is this the same as trade-in value?
No. The FIN 320 form specifies the expected retail value when the motor vehicle is sold privately. A dealer trade-in offer is not the value the form asks for.
What information should I have ready?
Have the year, make, model, mileage, a description of any defects or damage, and details of the purchase or registration timing. We can discuss whether additional records and inspection arrangements are needed.
Do you offer mobile appraisals?
Mobile and in-person arrangements can be discussed throughout Greater Vancouver, depending on the location, vehicle and appointment availability.
What does an appraisal cost?
Please call or text for a quote. Pricing depends on the vehicle, location and the service required; this website does not advertise an unverified flat rate.
Do you guarantee that ICBC or the government will accept a report?
No. Government and institutional decisions are governed by their own rules. FIN 320 must be completed by an eligible dealer or appraiser and contain accurate information; submitting it does not guarantee a particular decision.
Do you appraise classic or collector cars?
You can inquire about valuations for classic and collector vehicles, as well as other specialty circumstances. We'll discuss whether the requested scope can be accommodated.
How quickly can I book?
Call or text 604-716-7888 to discuss availability. We don't publish a fixed turnaround time because it depends on the vehicle, location and scope.
